Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets Guard, and the Nets themselves, were fined $25,000 for a failure to comply to the NBA’s media rules.
“The fines result from Irving’s refusal on several occasions this week to participate in the team media availability,” the NBA said in a statement Thursday.
According to the NBA’s rules, every healthy player is required to be made available to reports before and after games and practice.
Irving has declined to be interviewed by reporters many times since the start of training camp on Dec. 1.
“I pray we utilize the ‘fine money’ for the marginalized communities in need, especially seeing where our world is presently,” Irving wrote on his Instagram account. “(I am) I am here for Peace, Love, and Greatness. So stop distracting me and my team, and appreciate the Art. We move different over here.”
Irving joined the Nets on a four year deal, worth $141 million, so the $25,000 fine is worth around 1% of his annual salary.
